Darwin , The
Territory's capital,
lies midway along
Australia's convoluted
northern coast. Most
tourists end up spending
no more time here than
it takes to visit nearby
Kakadu and
Litchfield national
parks , continue
their Australian circuit
or fly on to Indonesia.
Until recently the city
had little appeal to
short-term visitors, but
things have changed and
Darwin is beginning to
mature into a worthwhile
destination in itself.
